Summer Engagement Session | Kayla + Cayden

Kayla and Cayden had their engagement session last summer and even months later, I am still simply obsessed with these two humans and this entire session!

These lovebirds met at college and started out as friends, after losing touch and some time had passed, they reconnected and they planned their first date. It’s safe to say after that first date, the rest is history! I CANNOT wait for their wedding day in just a few short months at Bluestone Estate!

Read about their love story here:

Tell me all about the two of you and your love story!

We both went to Lock Haven University. He was a baseball player, and I did a lot of speaking engagements for child sexual abuse awareness, and competed in the Miss America/Miss USA pageant systems. During the second half of his senior year (spring semester of 2018), one of his friends told him to reach out to me. Cayden added me on snapchat and said “I’m looking for a Queen, do you know one?” We slowly got to know one another and started out as friends. He would ask to get together and hangout, but I always told him no or that I was busy. During finals week, he knew I was in the library and dropped off a bag of candy to help me push through. I didn’t look up from what I was doing, and just said “thank you so much” and continued what I was doing. We both agree that it was the most awkward interaction we’ve encountered. We lost touch for a little, he graduated, and I knew I missed talking to him. I reached out to him and shared my congratulations to him. That’s when we started talking regularly again. We planned our first date, and the rest is history! After our first date, it sounds cheesy, but I knew he was the one and different from my previous relationships. We respect each other. We support each other. Most importantly, we never lose sight of what truly matters to us throughout the chaos of our schedules and our long list of responsibilities. I’m excited to move to Maryland and truly start this next chapter!

When did you start dating/ How long have you been together?

We started dating June 13, 2018. He asked me to be his girlfriend after a competitive game of mini-golf, in which I lost. We’ve been together for 3.5 years.

Tell me about the proposal!

A couple weeks prior to the proposal, our fur baby, Mr. Cannon, tragically died. Shortly after, Cayden said to get my mind out of the hurt, he knew I always wanted to do a couples photoshoot, so he set one up. He said that he was going to take care of everything and for me not to worry about it. About a week prior to the actual proposal, I asked for him to cancel it because I still wasn’t in the right headspace. Cayden insisted that we not cancel the photoshoot, so on October 30, 2020, we made the drive to Knoxville, MD, where one of my favorite local photographers met us there for the photoshoot. It was a steep hike up the Weaverton Cliffs, but it was well worth it. There was about 10 minutes left of the photoshoot, and Cayden turned to me, and shared his thoughts about our future, and expressed his feelings towards me. This photoshoot began a new chapter: ENGAGEMENT! Little did I know, he invited both of our families to share this moment with us, and we were even able to get photos with our families.

What is your favorite thing to do on a date night?

Try new restaurants, go to St. Michaels, Annapolis or Chestertown in Maryland.

What was your first date like?!

For our first date, we met in Elkton, MD for coffee and donuts. I was unsure how the date was going to go, so I told Cayden that I had something at 3PM in case the date didn’t go well. On our way to the hiking spot, we saw a turtle crossing the road, so what does Cayden do knowing that I am an animal lover? He helps it across the road, so it didn’t get hit. Then, we hiked up to the Turkey Point Lighthouse. During our hike, we would stop along the water to skip rocks and talk. Throughout the date there was never any awkward silence. Once we got to the top, we took some pictures of the scenic view, threw frisbee, laughed and talked for hours. Time flew by and it was early afternoon, which is when I told Cayden that I never had anything at 3PM, I just said that as my out in case the date when awful, except it didn’t. So I asked him to go to Woody’s Crab House for lunch, in which we had a blast, and continued talking and laughing.

Favorite activities to do together?

We love to hike, explore new places, and experience new things together (like skydiving).

What do you do for work?

Cayden owns a FedEx contracting business and Kayla owns a social media business, Buzz Social Media.

What is your vision for your session and photos!? The style/feel you’re hoping for.

We wanted photos that seemed timeless, natural poses that showed our personalities. We chose to do 3 outfits. One more formal than the other two.

Outfit details please!

If there’s one thing we have in common, it’s our unwavering commitment to the details -

- the lush cascading bouquet, the elegant wax seal on your invitations, and the seemingly small moments that become dear reminders of your big day. But, most importantly, it’s how we thrive on connection.

I believe the best wedding photography experience happens when we’re connected. That means trusting your photographer, a level of faith I treat earnestly.

You deserve a custom experience as breathtaking as your final gallery, and that’s what I’ll deliver.
