The Lucy is a modern, 19th century style Philly wedding venue located on the famous Avenue of the Arts in the heart of Center City. It’s one in a family of seven incredible venues owned by Cescaphe! From brass chandeliers to marble accents and ivory wall paneling, this show stopping, 17,000 ft2 space is elegant, sophisticated, and truly one of a kind. The unique architecture and luxury on site experience are just two reasons I love shooting weddings at The Lucy Cescaphe Philadelphia. I had the honor of capturing Marissa & Jonathan’s black and white wedding here last June and I’m still swooning over the final gallery.
Afternoon Wedding Ceremony in Philly
Marissa and Johnathan had a 3pm ceremony at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, which is a quick 10 minute drive north of the Lucy. Their traditional Catholic ceremony was such a beautiful and emotion-filled start to their love story.
And can we take a minute to talk about this cathedral?! The architecture alone is enough to transport you straight into medieval Europe. I swear I forgot I was in the U.S. for a hot second.
Cocktail Hour At The Lucy
After the ceremony, guests made their way to the venue for a famous Cescaphe cocktail hour. Cocktail hour was held on the second floor mezzanine, which overlooks the reception hall down below. Every detail was impeccable; from the perfectly plated charcuterie to the bride and groom’s signature cocktails to the ‘N’ ice sculpture.
The Lucy Ballroom Reception
Since it’s grand opening in the Fall of 2018, The Lucy ballroom has been a favorite spot for luxury wedding photographers. The space is expansive and can accommodate large weddings with up to 300 guests! The high ceilings and large windows provide plenty of natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere that’s perfect for capturing stunning wedding reception photos.
Another unique feature of The Lucy is its on-site catering team. The venue offers a variety of catering options, from elegant plated dinners to casual stations and buffets. The venue also provides a variety of rental items, including tables, chairs, linens, and china

The Naylor’s chose to do a family style dinner with 12-seat rounds and a sweetheart table in the middle. The Lucy has an expansive, modern bar that spans the width of the room. On the opposite side of the ballroom, the DJ or band can set up front and center on stage. The ballroom is so open and spacious that you can basically design whatever reception configuration you want.
Marissa and Johnathan’s reception was the perfect mix of elegant and fun! They included our photo booth add on in their photography package so guests could capture their own fun memories from the night too. Check out their sweet newlywed matching kicks!
Outdoor Options At the Lucy
The Lucy also offers a variety of other unique spaces for wedding ceremonies and receptions. The outdoor courtyard is perfect for couples looking for an intimate setting surrounded by flowers and greenery. The courtyard is also a great outdoor cocktail hour location, providing a relaxed and casual atmosphere for guests to mingle and enjoy signature drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
Downtown Philadelphia wedding photo locations
For bridal party and couple photos, I made sure to take full advantage of the beautiful urban Philadelphia setting just outside of the venue.
I can always count on the Merchant Exchange Building in Olde City for a show stopping photo backdrop. This historic landmark is a short drive from the venue but 100% worth the stop. And, arguably one of the best photo spots in Philadelphia is just a two minute walk from The Lucy—the Philadelphia City Hall building.
These shots were taken right on S Broad St and I love how they turned out!
I also recommend the Rodin Museum and Logan Square for two other amazing photo spots for a downtown Philly wedding.
