Some things in life happen completely out of the blue, but they end up being these iconic moments in our life. This is exactly how I felt about being invited to capture the wedding of Los Angeles Charger Brenden Jaimes and his beautiful bride Gaia. If some things are meant to be, I’m honored that it was my privilege to capture the amazing and enduring love between these two.
This Pennsylvania girl found herself set down in the middle of yee-haw Texas, camera in hand for an adventure and a half, and I was ready for literally anything to happen. Cattle drive across a back road? Ready for it. Men in spurs at the bar? Expected. Higher the hair the closer to God? I was living my Texas best life.
But, as it always is, the reality was much more nuanced. Dripping Springs, where the couple’s venue of Ma Maison is located, is right outside of the vibrant and diverse mecca of Austin, Texas. Austin could have its own blog, but, if I could give you a snapshot, this city is what happens when the man in spurs driving the cattle meets a bohemian woman who sculpts, curates a collection of pop-art, and can tell you the best tacos in a 5 mile radius. The result is a union that’s almost magical and undefinable, and that vibe is exactly what I walked into when I met Brenden and Gaia.
When you look at them, you think of conflicting ideas, stereotypes even: tough as nails offensive lineman, delicate and beautiful bride. But, just like Texas, the reality is more subtle. Brenden is so expressive and tender. Gaia is bold, hilarious, and full of joy. From the excitement of getting ready, to their emotional first look, and then the romance of their ceremony, to the absolute revelry of their reception, shooting for this couple was an absolute blast.
Look at these photos and tell me you don’t wish you were there. Amazing. Brenden and Gaia, thank you for the honor. Your love is a light and I can’t wait to see where it shines.
Thank you to all of our vendors!!
